Ways to avoid accidents during heavy snow |
Every year during the snow season, accidents happen at a higher rate: falling off the roof while shoveling snow, injuries caused by snow falling off roof tops, or in some cases casualties are reported. Other accidents such as having one’s arm or leg tangled with the snowplow do occur as well. Therefore, let’s be extra cautious in order to prevent such accidents from happening.

- In order to prevent injuries caused by snow falling off roof tops, let's shovel the snow off the roof!
- During the shoveling process, make sure you are securely fastened with a safety rope to prevent yourself from falling. Remember, safety comes before anything!
- Please do not hesitate to seek assistance from your neighbors and vice versa.
- When you operate the snowplow, be extra cautious so that you do not stumble over and get yourself tangled with the machine. The next thing to keep in mind is to watch out for any hazardous spots (the condition of the ground, if anyone is nearby or if there are any possible blind spots).
- Before you remove the snow off the snowplow, make sure the engine is turned off and the machine has come to a complete stop.
- In the case of fallen snow, inspect for damages around the house (eg. If the hose has fallen off). You should also pay attention to your neighbor’s gas facility to see if there is any damage. Lastly, for emergency purposes, please remove the snow around the gas facility and form clear pathways.
- When an automobile is buried in the snow, toxic accidents caused by carbon monoxide often occur as the exhaust pipe is stuffed with snow. Hence, in such situations, before you start the engine, make sure that you have removed the snow around your vehicle and double check that the exhaust pipe is not stuffed with snow.
