Earthquakes strike without warning. Talk with your family about
how you should react in order to minimize the damage.
1 React calmly
- Earthquakes come as a surprise. Don’t panic.
2 Ensure your own safety
- When you feel an earthquake, take cover under sturdy furniture such as a table or a desk.
- Prevent your head from being injured by using a cushion.
- Wear slippers inside the house and watch out for broken pieces of glass.
3 Act responsibly and with caution
- Secure an exit
- Turn off all heaters, and stoves and gas heaters
- Put out any fire you may notice
4 Collect information
- Act upon correct information, not on false rumors. Don’t make phone calls except in an emergency.
- Constantly pay attention to the information given by the authorities.
5 Evacuate as soon as possible
- Evacuate to the site designated.
- Before evacuation, do a safety check. Make sure all electric appliances and gas heaters are turned off.
- Move by foot, and carry nothing but necessities.
- Once you have evacuated, do not return to get money or possessions.
6 Take with you emergency items(generally male below 15kg, female below 10kg) such as
- seals , bankbooks, torches, candles, gloves , water , portable radios, cash, lighter, knives, powder milk, feeding bottles, disposal diapers, convenience noodles, foods, can opener, first-aid kit, clothing, blanket, helmet, etc.
