6月21日（土）、福島県国際交流協会の国際交流員ダニエルさんが、水林自然林で「ダニエルズデイ」特別企画「BBQをしながらニュージーランドの伝統文化を学ぼう」を行いました。

参加者16名は、マオリ族の伝統的な土窯蒸し料理「hāngī（ハンギ）」を体験し、講師であるダニエルさんからニュージーランドの観光スポットや、ニュージーランドとマオリ族の歴史や文化について様々な話を聞きました。

さて、一日がかりで参加者全員が掘った穴で蒸した鶏肉や野菜は、芯まで火が通って美味しそうに蒸しあがっていました。バーベキューをしながら蒸し上がりを待っていたので、満腹で食べられなかった人もいましたが、参加者全員で分け合って持ち帰りました。

最後は、マオリ族の有名な踊り（ハカ）である「カ・マテ」を習って踊りました。少し難しい動きもありましたが、皆さんは楽しそうに笑いながら踊っていました。

On Saturday, 21st of June, CIR Daniel of the FIA held a special Daniel’s Day event at Mizubayashi Nature Forest. The purpose of the event was to learn New Zealand and Māori culture while having a BBQ.

The 16 participants got to work on a traditional Māori cooking method called “hāngī”, in which you steam the food in an earth oven. Daniel also talked about New Zealand tourist spots, the history and culture of New Zealand and the Māori people, and many other topics.

The participants all helped digging the hole for the hāngī, which was then lifted after a long day to show the beautifully cooked meat and vegetables. Everyone ate BBQ while waiting for the hāngī to be ready, so many people were too full to eat by that time, but it was shared with everyone and they took it home.

Lastly, we learnt how to do the famous haka “Ka Mate”, led by Daniel. There were some moves that were a bit difficult, but everyone was having fun learning them!
